Mighty River « Result #1 on Nov 22, 2009, 10:14pm »
The Savannah is at one of the highest points as I've ever seen it. The crews marks at the riverfront are almost covered. The courtain at the lock and dam at the Columbia Co. Pavillion is thick and solid and no rocks are visible. What a ride that would be.

To paddle the best part of Horse Creek is to put in below the Langley Pond. Be ready to maneuver your boat under many strainers and you will have to portage around at least two impassable obstacles; however you will enjoy some rarely seen, very historic parts of Aiken County, like a wooden dam the mills use to have. You will see the workings of beavers, and a lot of wildlife. Eat lunch at the Langley Community Park, where you can use the bathroom and continue on a very windy, swift route to the Savannah River. The entire trip is 9 miles. The creek is very high and swift right now. It is one of the best places to paddle if you can use your "J" and "draw" strokes.

I just paddled this for the third time this past weekend. If you put in at Atomic Road the creek is in great condition. From there to the river, the only obstacle we came across was one very large downed tree just before the mouth of creek. We were still able to fight our way through the braches.

SAV river from Daniel Field to Johnson Landing « Result #6 on Nov 10, 2009, 2:09pm »
I just came back from a two night trip on the Savannah River from Daniel Field to Johnson Landing in S.C. ( about 7 mile short of the 301 bridge). I the river was still high and with that the flow wasn't what we imaged it would be and sandbars were very hard to come by. The first night we stay about 4 miles down river of Silver Bluffs on the only piece of sandbar we could find after a late start. Then on Saturday after we were checked out by a black helio with no regrestration numbers and followed by a armed soilder on the SRS land. We stoped that evening at Steel Creek Landing again on the S.C. side. The last day we again ran into SRS land further down stream but manged to make it to Johnsons's landing before 2pm. Good trip, great weather and OK Friends :> Might try this trip again in the spring or thinking about the Flint River, any suggestions.
Total runs about 60 miles of paddeling with a canoe and kayak and three guys that don't know any better!!!!!
